Sabiha Tanvir is from India and grew up in Saudi Arabia. She graduated from University of Texas at Austin with Honors. After graduating she decided to pursue a career in education. She is an Educationalist and started the first Progressive Preschool in Dallas, inspired by the Reggio Philosophy, at the age of 24years.
She is a strong proponent of Education reforms. She believes the Education system needs to be more Progressive with more room for creativity, aesthetics and freedom of thinking. “It is important to think of education as a right and not a need. Because when you define education as a need you are focusing on the lack of certain things as opposed to a right and then you focus on the potential and possibilities”.
She currently lives in Dallas with her husband and runs a school in Allen . She divides her time between her work, her 100+ children, family and traveling.
From The Writer:
I am just a Free Soul. For me the ideal world is a world without any boundaries, where one can transcend borders, gender, all religious, social and economic barriers. I love to travel and find it the most liberating experience, thousands of feet above ground, free as a bird, exploring different cultures, places and people.
I believe that behind every strong ‘successful’ woman there is a ‘secure’ man. So here is to the secure men in my life: my father and my husband.
My ramblings are my way of expressing my infinite views on everything and exercising the freedom to think and most importantly question. My ramblings are a tribute to every person who has played a role in helping me become a free thinking person, especially my parents, who gave me the tools to think for myself and learn to question. Growing up, they always emphasized the importance of education and economic independence. My mother always said that Financial dependence is the worse form of control……. As I get older, and see the plight of women, especially in developing countries this thought resonates with me even deeper.
I am thankful to God for not one, two or three children, but hundreds of children who bring a new energy and zest in my life everyday. And for a life partner who has always respected, supported and encouraged me. He has helped me remain a ‘Free Soul’.
Now I know that you are a serious thinker and a good writer.
Keep it up.
